Our timetable and routines
We believe that care and education are equally important in the experience which we offer children. The routines and activities that make up the day in the setting are provided in ways that:
- Help each child to feel that she/he is a valued member of Little Wombatz.
- Ensure the safety of each child.
- Help children to gain from the social experience of being part of a group.
- Provide children with opportunities to learn and help them to value learning.
Little Wombatz organises the day so that children can take part in a variety of child-chosen and adult-led activities. These take account of the children’s changing energy levels throughout the day.
The setting caters for children’s individual needs for rest and quiet activities during the day. Outdoor activities contribute to children’s health, their physical development and their knowledge of the world around them.
Because we change when we do things every day to meet the needs of the children that day, our routine is very flexible, but a brief summary would be:
0900– Free play with adult support and an adult led activity. The snack bar opens at 1015 for children to help themselves to a snack when they are ready.
1100– Key worker time. The children spend time in their key worker groups playing a game or completing an activity together.
1115– Outside time. We take a variety of toys and activities outside for the children to play with and make good use of the space around the scout and guide community centre.
1200– Circle time. We split into groups, the 2 to 3 year olds in one room and the 3 to 4 year olds in the other for age appropriate activities. The 3 to 4 year olds follow the letters and sounds program.
1215– Lunch (Please send your child with a healthy packed lunch). Once the children are finished they are encouraged to sit quietly with story books or small toys until everyone has finished eating.
1300– Free play with adult support and an optional adult led activity. This may be outside if the weather is nice.
1430– Tidy up time. The children are encouraged to help with tidying the toys away.
1445– Story time and quiet play for the children on late collection.
1500– Latest collection time.
